MANAGEMENT
Dan Kuokka, Ph.D
Vice President, Research
Dr. Kuokka is vice president of Research at Oversight Systems, where he focuses on product development decisions and advancing the company’s technology solutions. He offers a broad range of expertise, from research to executive and product management.
Kuokka previously managed engineering groups at Actra, a business-to-business e-commerce software startup later purchased by Netscape. After developing and delivering these systems as part of the Buyer Xpert software suite, he became group product manager for the AOL Organizer Division. In this role, Kuokka led a team of product managers responsible for specifying the functionality and user experience of AOL's online calendar. Kuokka also worked on agent development at Fuji Xerox Palo Alto Labs, where he applied them to common office productivity tasks and workflow. At Lockheed Martin Research Labs, he was the principal investigator and manager of the Shade team, which developed software agents that describe their own capabilities, a forerunner of today’s Semantic Web and Service Oriented Architecture (SOA). At Hewlett-Packard Labs, Kuokka worked on collaborative design systems, allowing engineers to efficiently design products that take into account often neglected goals such as maintainability, reliability and disposability.
Kuokka holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science and a M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Carnegie-Mellon University, as well as B.S. degrees in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering from the University of Washington.
